Most people are only now hearing about concrete as an option for countertops. CPF has been building them from scratch since long before they became the new trend in modern luxury.
The sky is the limit
Rest assured that we at CPF have been building concrete countertops from
scratch since long before they became the new trend in modern luxury. The
sky is the limit, so let us help you design something that stands above the
rest.
The skill of the contractor is everything in this trade.
Below are examples of projects that have made some very happy customers.
Granite versus custom concrete
If you have spent any time researching remodeling options lately, then
surely you have seen all the rage about concrete countertops — more
specifically, the debate over who wins: granite or custom concrete. There
are a lot of factors at play, and in the end it all comes down to
preference. But one thing is unarguably true: concrete countertops are the
most durable and versatile choice that your money can buy.
CPF has been pushing the envelope of what can be done with custom concrete
since 1991, and has the track record you are looking for in a contractor you
can trust with your custom concrete countertop job.
Why versatility is the real argument
A slab of granite is quarried and then you work around what it is. A
concrete top is cast, which means the shape, the edge profile, the color and
the thickness are all decisions rather than constraints — including shapes a
slab cannot do at all. The serpentine outdoor bar on the
Dos Vientos Villa
project is the clearest example: a continuous curved counter with an
integrated sink, cooler and barbecue, which is simply not a thing you cut
out of stone.
Owner supervised, fully insured
Countertop work happens inside a kitchen that somebody is trying to live in.
Each project is owner supervised, and CPF is
licensed, insured and bonded under C-29 masonry and C-8
concrete.
Fiber optics in the concrete
Fiber-optic tops: a counter that turns into a night sky
Hundreds of fiber-optic strands are cast into the slab itself, not
fixed underneath it afterwards, then polished back flush with the
surface. Switched off, the ends sit in the aggregate like flecks in
stone and it reads as a plain concrete top. Switched on, the points
carry in broad daylight — and after dark the top is the only thing in
the room.
The fibers run in zones off their own illuminators, so one top can
show more than one color at a time. Nothing about it is off-the-shelf
— the layout, the density and the colors are all decided before a
single pour, which is the whole argument for a cast top over a
quarried slab.
Lights down: the fiber ends carry the whole room.
Three zones, three colors, one slab.
The same top in daylight — a cast concrete slab with a chiseled edge, the points still running.
Close in: the fiber ends are polished back flush, sitting in the aggregate like flecks in stone.
Black concrete countertops, cast and polished.
The same run carried through an outdoor barbecue counter.
Kitchen countertops cast in place and ready for the sink to drop in.

Close on the finish: concrete takes a polish that reads as stone.
